For years, my husband and I have had a running joke. It's been around so long I don't even remember how it started. Whenever one of us has a particularly hard day, we come home and say to the other one, "That's it! We're moving to Tahiti!" And we go on to explain to each other about how we'll move to that island paradise and live in a grass hut. And also about how, since we have to quit our jobs, we won't have any money, so we'll have to just buy a rubber raft to get there instead of flying, like normal (sane) people would. We even decided we'd get an extra rubber raft so we could pull our chickens along behind us and have eggs to eat along the way.
This went on for quite a while. Well, then my parents retired and moved out of state to a little tiny town (Oak City). They told us how they loved it so much, and how they had escaped the hustle bustle of the big city, and lived in paradise. So then our joke became that mom and dad had moved to "Oak-Hiti".
And thus the name of this little company was born. In my mind, "Oakhiti" has become the word that symbolizes leaving your daily cares behind and doing what you love. In my case, I have always loved sewing and pattern making, so that's what happens around here, whenever I have two seconds to spare. (My husband jokingly refers to our attic as "the sewing factory", because my burgeoning, out-of-control fabric collection has completely taken over. I may have to build a grass hut to hold the spill-over).
It's my goal to help you have as much fun as I do. I know you're busy and frantic and trying to keep up with everything, and that sewing is usually the last thing on your agenda. But please, make a little time to go to your version of "Oakhiti" and do something that fills your spirit with happiness. Create something wonderful!
